Amazon Fire TV, huh?

Not much to report on this except for a few key points that I don’t see anyone mentioning:

  • Amazon Fire TV has only 8gb of storage. This fact alone is going to prevent it from being any kind of serious console competitor. And for the “but it’s a streaming device first, Amazon’s not trying to be a serious console competitor!” response, I say, then why are they selling a dedicated, console-like gaming controller to go along with the machine’s 2gb of RAM and quad-core processor?
  • Amazon Fire TV can only stream media from a Kindle Fire HDX, other than that there is no AirPlay or Chromecast-esque feature.
  • Does anyone really live fully in Amazon’s cloud? I know they have cloud storage for photos and music which Fire TV can (from what it seems like) very nicely integrate, but who is actually going to take advantage of that?
